Trip Overview

Dhaulagiri, known as the “White Mountain,” is located across the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. This region features around fifteen peaks above 7,000 meters, with Dhaulagiri being the most prominent. Trekking in this area can be quite strenuous. Still, it offers trekkers a chance to immerse themselves in nature’s tranquility, making it an excellent choice for those looking for an “off the beaten track” adventure.

The journey includes crossing the Magdi Glacier and reaching Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,750 m) before approaching the French Pass (5,360 m) nestled between the Mukut Himal and Tukuche Peak. As you traverse this majestic landscape, you’ll be surrounded by the colossal peaks of the Dhaulagiri range. From French Pass, the trek’s highest point, you will descend into the Hidden Valley and continue along the trail leading to Dhampus Pass, positioned between Tukuche Peak and Thapa Peak. This route leads you to Jomsom and Muktinath, a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists. Your adventure concludes with a return to Jomsom, where you will fly to Pokhara and then back to Kathmandu.
