If you are looking for an offbeat adventure in Nepal that rewards you with panoramic Himalayan views and rich cultural experiences, the Pikey Peak Trek should be on your radar. Tucked away in the Solukhumbu region, this trek offers stunning sunrises, peaceful trails, and unforgettable encounters with the Sherpa way of life.
Day 01: Journey to Dhap – The Adventure Begins
The journey began with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap, a small village that serves as the starting point of the pikey peak trek. The drive, though bumpy at times, winds through picturesque hills, terraced farms, and villages, offering a glimpse of rural Nepal.
By evening, I reached Dhap and stayed in a cozy teahouse, sharing stories with other trekkers by the fire.
Day 02: Dhap to Jhapre – The First Glimpse of Everest
The next day’s walk to Jhapre was gentle and full of charm. Along the way, fluttering prayer flags and ancient monasteries reminded me of the deep spirituality embedded in the region. From Jhapre, I caught my first distant glimpse of Mt. Everest, along with Numbur and Makalu. The sky lit up in orange and pink as the sun dipped below and horizon-pure magic.
Day 03: Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp – Into the Heart of Nature
The trail from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp climbs steadily through rhododendron forests, yak pastures, and alpine landscapes. The peacefulness of the trail was only broken by the sound of birds and the occasional passing of yaks.
At the base camp, the air was crisp and the stars incredibly bright. I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the mountains.
Day 04: Sunrise at Pikey peak – A view to Remember
This was the highlight of the trek. I woke up early around 4:30 AM and started the final push to Pikey Peak (4065m) in the dark. As I reached the top just before dawn, the sky began to glow. Then, the sun rose – and what a view! From one spot, I saw a sweeping panorama of the Himalayan range, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna. It’s said Sir Edmund Hilary claimed this to be his favorite view of Everest – and I can see why.
Day 05-06: Descent via lodging 7 Return to Kathmandu
The descent took me through beautiful villages like Loding, where I experienced Sherpa hospitality and simple mountain living. The teahouses served delicious local food, and the peaceful atmosphere was the perfect way to end the trek.
After a drive back to Kathmandu, I returned with not just photos, but a heart full of memories.
Pikey Peak isn’t just a trek, it’s a soulful escape. If you are looking for something raw, beautiful, and quietly powerful, this is the trail to walk. I left a piece of my heart up there in the wind & the sky – and I know I will be back.
